THANK YOU TO OUR STUDENTS and WHANAU

To all our students and whanau: Thank you for the outstandingly positive response you have had to what has been a very challenging and ‘muddled’ start to this school year.
We are proud to tell you that we have had around 80% of students engaged in some meaningful learning activities every single day during each of the lockdown periods. We have distributed around 280 devices and additional hard packs to homes, and had many many students using their own home-based devices logging into google classrooms and working with teachers and teacher aides. On Monday 1 March, the first day of the second lockdown, our school-based team, led by Lynn Corderoy, AP, distributed over 180 chromebooks to very organised and patient families, often running out to cars in driving rain.
Currently we are preparing to access more support funding through Pacific Futures to support families who have not yet been able to get internet access in their homes, and to provide creativity packs for families who may not be able to afford to provide these resources for their tamariki in lockdown; please contact your child’s classroom teacher if you need this support – we will do our best to access it for you.
Our Kapa Haka group is providing students and whanau with zoom support and frequent updates through their Facebook page. School leaders are in regular contact with all the students from their teams and later in Term 1, when we are back at school we will start the ‘Free Lunches in School’ programme –  with every child being offered food every day. We are also looking forward to EOTC Week during which our students will have a chance to experience a range of challenging and exciting physically educational activities. We hope whanau will also join in and help out at these.
Every child deserves to have equitable social and learning opportunities. At Papatoetoe Intermediate School we are determined to create opportunities and support every child to enjoy them.

My first week as a Year 8 in intermediate felt very new. I had to be a leader and a role model to the Year 7’s. I am lucky to have nice Year 7’s, which made my job as a leader a whole lot easier. We welcomed the Year 7’s to our school by singing our school song.

The Year 7’s adjusted to the routines and jobs pretty nicely. My new job as the environment monitor meant taking care of the paper, landfill and compost. Being an environment monitor is fun and tedious at the same time.

Unfortunately, lockdown happened but it didn’t stop our learning. All of my classmates caught on with online learning very quickly. Once our first lockdown was over, it felt like nothing happened.

Break times were very chaotic and fun. I have made some new friends and always hangout with them during break times.  We really like being  together.

I am really excited for the rest of the year and cannot wait to enjoy more activities. I also hope that the Year 7’s do a good job next year.

Food for Schools Programme SANDWICHES

DEEJAYS are currently hiring for the following positions:

  • FISP Operators for Food in School Programme.
  • Monday – Friday
  • Starting ASAP
  • Working during the school terms with school holidays off!

Our mission is to see healthy, nutritionally balanced lunches in the bellies of every young person in New Zealand.  Starting in late March, we are looking for experienced candidates to produce healthy lunches promptly an efficiently to deliver lunches to designated schools throughout the week.

Day to day duties will include:
–   Delivering food as instructed
–   Uplifting leftover food and packaging as required for collection.
–   Maintaining a clean and hygienic kitchen
–   Complying with the code of conduct and health and safety rules 

Job skills and qualifications:
–   Previous food handling experience
–   Have the capability to work in a standing position for an extended period.
–   Excellent Customer experience.

We are looking for candidates who possess a strong work ethic, are reliable, honest and consider themselves naturally a team player. The role requires you to work during the school terms.
