Despite Week 6 being short, we have been doing lots of different things in Room 9.
This week was the Support Staff Week and most students made a thank you card for our teacher aide, Mrs Kumar, to appreciate all her work and support in our classroom.
In Maths, students have been learning about statistics. The different ways of displaying and interpreting data on graphs.
Students have also been writing recounts, reflecting on their experiences and memories of the past. 
They have enjoyed the process of brainstorming, writing drafts, editing their own and friends’ work, and finally publishing their writings.
Another exciting thing that has been happening in Room 9 – is the students have been learning about Ozobots. Ozobots are little robots that are designed as an introduction to coding. Students use colour combinations to move the Ozobot on a path from one location to another. When Ozobot goes over certain combinations of red, green, blue, and black in the form of little squares right next to each other, it receives an instruction (called a Colour Code). Ozobot knows about 30 Colour Codes. Students draw lines with colour and watch how Ozobot responds.
In the 2 photos attached you can see some of the boys in Room 9 working in a group to make a track for Ozobots to follow.
ENROLMENTS FOR 2022 – IN ZONE and OUT OF ZONE
Applications for in zone and out of zone open on Monday 26th July 2021. We encourage all IN ZONE enrolments to be completed and returned to Papatoetoe Intermediate by Friday 13th August 2021. Out of Zone Applications close on Wednesday 1st September 2021 at 3.00 p.m. A ballot will take place on Wednesday 8th September – for any balloted places Papatoetoe Intermediate has available.

Current Year 7 students ARE NOT required to re-enrol for their Year 8 year in 2022.
HIGH SCHOOL/COLLEGE ENROLMENTS
Year 8 families should now be enrolling their son/daughter in the Secondary/College of their choice, for Year 9 2022.
We will update families with out of zone closing dates for the Secondary Schools as the Schools advise us of these dates.
If you need help with enrolling please do not hesitate to contact our School Office. We are happy to help.
WINTER UNIFORM
Our days are getting wetter and colder. Students can now add the winter component to their school uniform.
- Students must be in ‘closed’ black shoes and black socks. – socks can be ankle or knee high.
- Students may wear a plain black scarf to and from school only. Scarves are not to be worn around school.
- Students may wear plain long black pants [not jeans or just leggings].

Reminder to students – safety when walking home
Please remind your children about the following points when walking to and from school:
– Keep safe crossing the road
– Use pedestrian crossings or cross at traffic lights
– Walk home with a friend
– Try not to walk by yourself
– Walk home how you normally do unless home has stated/given permission for you to walk a different direction home
– Keep safe around people you do not know
– Do not get into conversations with strangers or go to strangers.
Checking your child’s on line history.
We have had a number of incidents starting with poor on line behaviour which includes bullying, threats, inciting violence and self harm. Please check your child’s online accounts. Keep a concerned and watchful eye on what they are doing and help them stay safe.
Any concerns, please call your child’s teacher or Associate Principal.

COMMERCIAL CLEANING CONTRACT
We are currently reviewing the Commercial Cleaning Contract at Papatoetoe Intermediate School. The new Contract will start on Saturday 10th July 2021. AUCKLAND GIRLS GRAMMAR OPEN DAY
Wednesday 23rd June 2021 9.30 am – 12.30 pm Senior students will lead school tours throughout the morning and the Principal will give short talks at 10am, 11am and 12pm. Information Evening – Wednesday 23rd June 2021 6.30pm – 8.00pm. All prospective students for 2022 and their whānau are very welcome to attend this evening.
