  1. Administration Matters 
Welcome and Karakia Thank you, Darryl for the Karakia,
Confirmation of previous minutes Moved that the Board accepts the minutes of the previous meeting held on 28th August 2023 as true and correct LT, LS, Carried
Matters Arising Media
–          Media contacted Pauline and requested a copy of the questions the Board presented to the Ministry at the August meeting.
–          Pauline will advise the Board if and when anything is published regarding their visit.

Education Law
–      Board Members must check the agenda prior
to a meeting and declare any Conflict of
Interests.
–          No Conflict of Interest declared for this meeting.

Yearbook
–          Jeremy and Kimi working on this and will have it
ready for the 16th of October deadline.

STAR values handbook updated.

Staffing for 2024 – getting closer. Still appointments to be made.

783 students to date.

Maori hui – approximately 50 whanau attended.
Tongan/Niuean – 350 whanau attended.
–           400 family members so far
Fijian and Indian Hui/Fono evening – 19th October
Samoan and Cook Island Hui/Fono evening– 2nd November.
–          Board members are all very welcome to attend. It would be great to have more from the Board present.

Enrolments for 2024  –  Still waiting on a number of in zone enrolments for Year 7 2024.

RTLB Union Rep is different from the school union rep.
–          RTLB are not getting a lot of support from their
Union.

Vandalism on the increase – during the day.
–          Punching holes in the walls.
–          Cameras are dotted around the school but not
enough.

Banning of phones in school
–          Very hard to force students to hand in their
phones.
–          Rule is – phones should be in security boxes               for the day.

Approvals
–          Finances – school and RTLB, Commentaries,
bank statements and visas all approved.
–          Employment
–  Classroom teacher vacancy closes on the
20th  September.

Finance Report August reports shared with Board
–           Graphs are as the Board would like to see
them now. Uploading had caused a problem.
All sorted now.
–          Finances tracking well.
–          Anna will be present for the October meeting
–          Bank Staffing – Tracking to end with zero by
the end of the year.
 

 

Property Report August Reports shared with Board
–           Great to see the photos for the ‘scope of
work’.

Coffee Cart 20th September. This is a thank you from the Board to all staff. Staff will receive a hot drink of their choice along with a treat.  
Year Book Jeremy and Kimi are working on this.
–          Community consultations
–          Teaching does not end at the gate – it continues at
home.
–          Board photo
–          Board would all like a copy.
 
Newsletter All Members have received this.  
Pauline’s self care This has not been happening. Pauline is aware she needs to try and leave early some days and WFH.  
  1. Meeting Closure 
In Committee At 6.45 p.m. JN moved that the Public be excluded from discussion of confidential items relating to personnel matters because of their sensitive nature. JN/Carried
Out of In Committee The ‘in committee’ discussion closed at 7.15 p.m. and the regular meeting resumed.

The Board Chair and Principal agreed to carry out the actions outlined in the ‘in-committee’ meeting.

 
Board Dinner Christmas celebrations
–          Would the Board like to go back to One Tree Grill or             try somewhere different?
–          Barb will send out a couple of dates to members.
–          Once date confirmed a booking will be made.
