Learning Support Leader at Papatoetoe Intermediate School

A little about myself and my time at Papatoetoe Intermediate School:
I am a passionate educator who has been in the profession for over nine years. Before joining Papatoetoe Intermediate, I worked at Epsom Normal Primary School for over six years, where I was a teacher, team leader, and digital learning leader amongst other leadership roles. I have also taught in the UAE for two years following a fixed term position at Balmoral School.

I have a Bachelor of Science degree majoring in Psychology and Biology. Following this, I completed my Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching and have more recently completed a Masters of Education in 2022.

My vision and hopes for our school/my class:
Originally from India, I moved to New Zealand as a high school student, experiencing first hand what it is like to be a migrant in a foreign country as a child. I wish to support all students to achieve success at school through equitable and inclusive education that is culturally responsive and suits the needs of the communities.

My goal is also to grow teacher practice and passion. I believe in lifelong learning and in the theory of ‘teachers as learners’. I have been developing my own practice in the areas of  literacy, numeracy, science, digital learning, and research. This has resulted in allowing me to drive innovative practices in the schools where I have worked and to push teachers to step outside their comfort zone to continue their learning.

I also have a particular interest in psychology and mental wellbeing. I believe in a holistic approach to teaching and learning where all needs of the student are met through a hauora model of wellbeing.

A bit more about me:
I am an astronomy enthusiast and frequently spend my weekends at the Stardome Observatory. I am driven by my love for food, enjoying cooking and baking, as well as exploring new restaurants in my own time. Photography and travelling are also interests I enjoy.
