Kia ora, I am the classroom teacher for Room 35. I teach Social Science and Te Reo Māori and I am also involved with Kapa Haka and anything cultural. I am one of the netball coaches here at school and I love having fun with the kids outside the classroom too. I am also the Kānuka (yellow) house leader and hopefully this will be our year to shine.
A little about me and my time at Papatoetoe Intermediate School:
I am very excited to continue my teaching journey at Papatoetoe Intermediate School. I completed my final teaching placement here at the end of 2022 before beginning my role in the classroom next door. The staff, students and wider community at Papatoetoe Intermediate have welcomed me with open arms and I am grateful to be part of this whānau.
My vision and hopes for my class and our school:
One of my biggest hopes is to support tamariki to find strength and pride in their cultural identity and to allow that to guide them throughout their education and their lives. Every child deserves to feel supported and to have a voice. By creating this kind of environment I hope to help them see their worth and importance and understand how they can guide their own success. These tamariki are our manukura o āpōpō, our leaders of tomorrow, and my goal is for them to see that within themselves too.
A little more about me:
I am Māori and whakapapa to Te Aupōuri, Ngāti Raukawa and Ngāti Hangarau. I am from all over the motu, with Ōtaki, Tauranga and Te Kao in the Far North holding a special place in my heart as those are where I am from. I was born and raised in Tāmaki Makaurau and moved to Te Whanganui-a-Tara to complete my university studies, where I lived for four years and gained a Graduate Diploma in Primary Teaching.
