COVID update for Papatoetoe Intermediate School

Kia ora koutou

After the PMs announcement  at 4.30pm this afternoon we are looking forward to welcoming all our students and staff back at school tomorrow at the return to Alert Level 2.  Our health and safety plan is in place as it has been under every alert level, and you can be assured we’ll continue doing everything we can to keep children safe. To keep everyone safe please look for and follow instructions as your whanau returns to school.

Please confirm with your child’s teacher that they will be at school this week. If they are not returning, please let your child’s teacher know when they are expected to return and the reason you are keeping them home. To support students remaining at home, learning will continue online.

At home, please continue with good hand hygiene, cough and sneeze etiquette, appropriate physical distancing when out and about and keeping your child home if they are sick. Face coverings are another way we can help keep ourselves and others safe. Face coverings will be required on public transport at Alert Level 2 and above. This does not apply to any child who is under 12 years of age and does not apply to school transport (we have good systems in place to manage safety on school transport). Public Health officials have advised that children under the age of 6 should not wear face coverings. Children and young people do not need to wear face coverings at school. Other public health control measures are in place including children and staff staying home if they are sick, contact tracing, and hygiene requirements. If your child doesn’t need to wear a face covering but they want to, that’s fine.

Until Monday 22nd February students will only be able to order lunches and morning tea online on the Deejays website. Please send your child to school with their own drink bottle (water only) and their lunch

We’re continuing contact tracing by having QR code posters at our entrances, so please check in every time you come onsite. If you haven’t already downloaded the NZ COVID Tracer app the Ministry of Health’s website has information to help you do that. We’ll also keep a visitor register for anyone who doesn’t have the app, and also for anyone who comes onsite for a period of time. This will help us with contact tracing in the unlikely case it is needed. For more information about public health measures at Alert Level 2 you can visit the COVID-19 website, and if you have any questions about next week please get in touch.

See you soon!

POWHIRI – 4th February 2021

Thank you to Room 1  for this article in our Newsletter

On the 4th of February 2021 the Year 8’s welcomed the new Year 7’s with a Powhiri. We sang songs and the teachers led with their prayers and speeches.

At Papatoetoe Intermediate we have various subjects such as Food tech, Performing Arts, Music and more. Learning from these different subjects has been an amazing experience for all of us in the previous year as year 7’s. We are thankful and appreciative for what the hard working teachers have taught us throughout last year. It’s been fun, amusing and challenging at the same time.

The second week of school we discussed the Treaty of Waitangi and its importance and awareness of this monumental event to New Zealand’s history.  In addition to this our class has created our own treaty that will resemble good qualities, good behaviour, perseverance and respect.

We hope the Year 7s are enjoying their time here at Papatoetoe Intermediate and we hope also that they will learn something important and valuable from their prospective teachers. We also hope the Year 8s will do well and excel in all their subjects and strive to achieve all that wasn’t achieved in the previous year.

We can achieve our goals by learning what we need to learn, reading everyday and listening to what the teacher has to tell us.
