My name is Shiro Chand, I am the classroom teacher of Room 6 in Syndicate Tupu a Rangi and a proud member of Kahikatea House.
I teach Room 6, it is a co-ed Year 7 & Year 8 class and I am primarily responsible for the safety and raising the achievement of students in Literacy and Numeracy. I am also a member of the Science Department, Mathematics, PB4L and Fijian culture Team.
I am very passionate and committed to my learners education and willing to learn further so that I could share the knowledge and skill with my students. I’m a warm and caring teacher who wants all children to be successful learners and to create a classroom atmosphere that is stimulating, encouraging, and adaptive to the varied needs of students.
A little about me and my time at Papatoetoe Intermediate School:
I’m an experienced teacher with 40 years of teaching experience in intermediate and secondary schools. I have taught at various schools in South Auckland and internationally. I have been at Papatoetoe Intermediate School for 4 ½ years and love living and working in this community.
My vision and hopes for our school/my class:
It is my mission to instil a love for learning. I attempt to teach with a passion so that my students develop a desire to become lifelong learners. In Room 6, my focus is to challenge our young students academically, emotionally and socially, to become well-rounded individuals.
I believe in learners taking the lead as much as possible in their learning and actively promoting discovery learning. I often use strategies such as talk partner and group activities to promote students’ confidence and to create a safe learning environment.
A bit more about me:
I have come from the beautiful tropical island of Fiji. I’m married and have two daughters. My youngest daughter is in a wheelchair. During my spare time, I love baking and crocheting.
